| SOUTH LONDON PSYCHOTHERAPY GROUP ANNUAL WORKSHOP |
| Introduction |
For over fifteen years, the SLPG
has been running an Annual Workshop at the Cassel Hospital in
Richmond.
We consider and discuss clinical approaches to contemporary issues in mental
health that challenge current practice such as psychosis, self-harm, shame,
child abuse, attachment, racism and other topics that are encountered in both
private practice or in the institutional setting. The Workshops represent a form of
applied psychoanalysis, demonstrating to practitioners the relevance of
psychoanalytic thinking and practice to everyday work.
At each Workshop the speaker - either an invited guest or a member of the SLPG - introduces the
subject, addressing both clinical and theoretical perspectives, providing the
basis for discussion with all the participants in small groups. In this way
practitioners are invited to join with us in a cordial environment to think
through the issues faced by colleagues from all sectors of psychotherapy and
counseling.
Finally the Workshops also provide an opportunity for members of the SLPG to
publicise our work both as an organization and as private practitioners working
across South London.
